Kate felt her heartbeat go faster and faster as she approached the nest of pups. She didn’t want to disturb something. Maybe they didn’t even want her there, but she had to try and help. Kate stretched out her arm, and at first, Sadie growled at her female owner. But that hostility faded soon enough with Kate’s soft demeanor and gentle approach. She patted all five dogs and promised to help them.
