Joshua hammered boards across the cabin windows, the dull thuds echoing in the twilight. Inside, Maddy pulled a worn blanket tightly around her shoulders, though it did little to calm her nerves. “Do you think this Wren person can still find us here?” she asked cautiously. Derek didn’t look up. “If they knew where we were earlier, they probably still do.” The quiet around them grew unbearable. Every creak in the floorboards sounded like danger.
