Jason raised his voice. “Hello? We’re here! You left a message!” His voice echoed into the darkness, fading to silence. No response came. Emily’s breath quickened. “Maybe he’s not here,” she whispered. Jason didn’t believe it. “Or maybe he doesn’t want to be found,” he said, voice low. The idea chilled them both.
