He slowed the tractor, squinting toward the tree line. Something was off. A cluster of trees had clearly fallen, their trunks split and hanging at odd angles. But in the middle, there weren’t just broken trees—there were none at all. A whole section was simply gone, as if erased from the earth entirely.
