A massive sinkhole had opened up, swallowing the earth like a giant mouth. It was at least a hundred feet deep, maybe more. Just yesterday, Charles had planted beets here. Now the ground was gone, replaced by an enormous hole that yawned across his land. “What the hell,” Charles whispered in disbelief.
