Then he piled up the branches, kindling, and dry fabric scraps. He struck his flint repeatedly until the first spark caught. A tiny flame licked upward, and he fed it carefully, shielding it from the wind. The fire grew slowly, with tiny flames flickering against the side of the plane. It wasn’t much, but it was the first fire in the wilderness that Lucas had ever made.
