The journey back was slow but steady. Tom moved with effort, leaning heavily on Lucas. When they finally reached the edge of town and the familiar sight of Lucas’s motel, both men were exhausted. Lucas dialed emergency services immediately. Within the hour, an ambulance arrived. Tom was gently helped inside, wrapped in thermal blankets, his eyes overwhelmed with the sight of people again.
