Lilly returned to the log, crouching lower this time. The little creature hadn’t moved much. It tried to shift when it saw her, but gave up halfway. It didn’t even have the strength to escape. “You poor thing,” she whispered. Her fingers hovered near it, checking how far she could go. The moment she reached forward, a strange chill ran down her spine.
