Ben exhaled. “That was insane,” he whispered. Laura nodded, still holding her breath. The towel, which they placed around the eggs that afternoon in a perfect circle, now appeared like a perfectly formed nest. In it, all six chicks chirped in quick bursts, huddling together. Their coloring was already coming through, even though most of their bodies were still covered in gray fluffy underfeathers.
