Letting go

Laura watched until they disappeared into the distance. The trees swallowed them up. She pressed a hand to her chest, smiling through the tears. “You made it,” she whispered. “You’re where you’re supposed to be.” There was no ceremony, no applause. Just open air, birdsong, and the rustle of leaves. It was the right ending—even if it broke her heart.
