Nora stepped outside, hiding behind the corner with the keys in her hand. Claire positioned Alex just behind the counter, under the freezer lights. “Stay visible,” she whispered. Claire cracked the door open. It creaked slightly. The policeman turned, spotted Alex, and without a second of hesitation, rushed inside. Alex turned and sprinted toward the breakroom. Claire stepped aside, heart pounding with every step.
