At first, the caretakers assumed she was tired. Maybe just taking a break from the usual climbing and chaos. But as the sun began to set that first evening, Mara stayed there. The others filed into the night enclosure, climbing into hammocks and shaded corners. But Mara remained outside, her back to the gate, staring straight ahead, her massive body hunched over something nobody could see.
