Ben didn’t wait. The moment Mara shifted weight off the soil, he darted forward. His boots barely made a sound on the grass. The hole was soft—sunken from days of pressure—and warm to the touch. He thrust his hand into the hollow, fingers wrapping around something firm and foreign. He didn’t stop to examine it. Mara was already turning, sniffing the air suspiciously.
