Flickering light

The third night was even colder than the first two. All the other orangutans had settled into the insulated enclosure, curled in blankets or straw. But Mara remained outside, unmoving. Mara’s seated location was beneath one of the flickering lights of the outside enclosure, which cast dark shadows around her every time it flickered from off to on. It was a sad sight to behold.
