They parked Elise’s car just off the gravel road where the forest walk began. A wooden sign welcomed them with peeling paint, and the path narrowed into tall grass and thick brush. “Feels like a jungle,” Anna joked, swatting at a bug. “You’ll survive,” Elise laughed. They adjusted their backpacks, checked their water bottles, and stepped into the shaded trail like they owned it.
