Dr. Keller explained that the note’s strange appearance came from a type of transposition code used by the U.S. Army in the mid-20th century. “Each letter shifts to form the real message if you know what to look for. So, the strange spelling is intentional. The army used it to communicate between divisions and avoided the enemy from learning of plans when notes got intercepted.”
