He carried the bundles inside and began laying them out one by one across his kitchen table, his mouth dry, his heart thudding in his chest. It didn’t feel real. The paper was crisp, the edges sharp, the print intact. Most bills were fifties and hundreds, aged but valid. When he was finished counting, the total stood just above fifty thousand dollars. He sat in stunned silence.
