His chest burned. He saw the upper chamber flash past him, then daylight—green, murky light. He hit the opening of the building, propelled upward by instinct alone. His regulator wheezed empty. Eli kicked the last few meters, eyes wide. Then he burst into the open sea, ripped off his mask, and gasped violently, dragging breath into his lungs like it was gold.
