Curiosity bubbled up inside him like a soda can shaken too hard. He set the shovel aside and knelt down, using his hands to brush away the loose dirt more carefully. His fingers touched a smooth, hard surface that definitely didn’t feel like a rock or a root. His heart started to beat faster, and he felt a sudden rush of excitement he hadn’t expected that day.
